Arabic language is the foundation of Islamic sciences

Image
Assalamoalaikum readers! As the 18th of December is celebrated as the 'World Arabic language' day, here is an another attempt of mine to craft something in the blessed language. It was originally prepared for a speech that I was supposed to deliver and then I adjusted it to the requirements of a blog. May this bring readers and my own self closer to the correct understanding of our religion and the language of Prophet Muhammad. Ameen.  There you go!

Should I write it?

Image
السلام عليكم readers! When we think of creativity, the one thing to pop up out of many is ‘creative writing’. Creativity and writing are strongly connected. Since creative people like to write and writing increases creativity. You cannot untie the both. There is no doubt that creativity and writing both are significant to the human mind and making efforts to nourish them is important too. However, in our effort to write something new, or creatively impact the world, we, sometimes, forget about the unintended outcomes of what we choose to write. Notwithstanding that fact that fine pieces of literature have their own substance and value, it cannot be denied that a meaningless discourse with excellent vocabulary and carefully crafted sentences is, at the end of the day, meaningless. It falls on a writer’s shoulders to embrace the responsibility of being truthful, honest, wise and far-sighted just as much as he is creative, eloquent and passionate about his work. In fact, the lat...

Why we need to be careful before we mention Quranic verses and Ahadith

Image
Assalamoalaikum readers. I have been reflecting about various events happening around me and have been working on quite a few write-ups-some of which require detailed research too. So I decided that I not hurry and give the write-ups their due time. Hence, the delay. However, there has been one thing, which I feel, demands a little urgency. Alhamdulillah, in most of our Islamic and tarbiyah-based gatherings, we discuss Quranic verses and ahadith. However, neither do we mention the Arabic of it, nor   do we, in most cases, adequately read the commentaries on verses and ahadith done by scholars in voluminous books.  This is where we are usually mistaken. While translating them into our own language, we fail to convey what they could have meant originally in Arabic, we fail to realize their context of origin, and underestimate how our own version of translation can not only decrease the effect, but in fact give it a meaning, which, sometimes, goes against the fundament...

How to learn better

Image
Having experienced different learning processes, in and out of institutions, I have been reflecting on what have been any practices that have aided my learning or have simply kept the zeal of it to continue. Habits that I feel, were it not for them, I would not have been able to embark on multiple educational adventures in my life. And, now that I am almost done reflecting, this shall be a part of my blog. (Read till the end, I have attached something that might interest you) First and foremost idea that will help you appreciate any learning experience, is to have serenity and the willingness to wait. In simple words: Have patience. Acknowledge the fact that you will not know everything right away. Make peace with that! Wanting to learn everything at once or expecting yourself to understand concepts, the moment you sit down on them may not be very complicit to any educational journey. And while I do not want to sound unrealistic by suggesting that you find yourself a comforta...

My journey with Arabic Language.

Image
Assalamoalaikumm Welcome to another blog on writings by Rabeea Sangani. Before I begin, I should confess that this shall be one of the dearest writings to me, that I have ever done or will do. And before these words are written here, they have remained with me and experienced all that they will express today. They have thrived under my thoughts, or perhaps, my thoughts have thrived on them. With the grace of Allah, its been a few years now since I have gotten the opportunity to be a student of the blessed language of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ . Every proceeding day, I admire this language a little more and with every new step, I unfold another page of my ignorance. Without any further ado, let’s cut to chase. I grew up listening to my father praying for me to learn Arabic. I never took it seriously. All my struggles were dedicated to my worldly education. I used to exhaust myself with hours of reading and writing during my O’and A’levels. It is not reminiscent of any hurtful mem...

Trendsetting

Image
Assalamoalaikum readers! Apologies for the unintended and uninformed delays in the posting! ……………. Ever reflected on the life that we spend, I mean why do we eat what we eat and why do we say what we say. How do we think and what shapes our thoughts? What affects our decision-making? I have been reflecting on these questions lately, and I have come across two processes that we all undergo; Trend-following and trend-setting. Now in this blog, I am not particularly referring to the clothing trends or the common bandwagons everybody jumps on, but rather, the little things we choose to do and the ones that we don’t deem worth the energy. The decisions we take, the words we pick on to express ourselves and the way we carry the baggage of past, none of it is other than a trend that has been set by some person at one point in life. You will never be able to say that the path I have chosen is unique, you can, perhaps admit that is less-chose route. The fact that we do what,...

Grit; Book review

Image
Name of book: Grit; the power of passion and perseverance Author: Angela Duck worth Number of pages: 285 Published by: Scribner “I wrote it because what we accomplish in the marathon of life depends on our grit-our passion and perseverance for long term goals. An obsession with talent distracts us from that simple truth” Angela Duckworth Almost 6 months a go, I discovered a book: Grit. Judged by its cover, it instantly secured a place in my To-be-read list. I had forgotten it until recent time ,after having my list revised, and listening to a ted talk on lack of perseverance and consistency, I struggled to resist my temptation and got my hands on it. I am glad I did. Grit, as the writer puts it, means having the  passion to accomplish a a particular top-level goal and the perseverance to follow through. Unlike most self-help books that disappoint their readers with their impracticality, Grit comes off as raising a quite realistic problem and even more realistic solutions. Before we...
